Polyfest

Here are a few photos from our trip to Polyfest. The children had a lot of fun being out and about in the sun watching performances and exploring the festival!

Sorting Rubbish with Mrs Elmore

On Thursday Mrs Elmore came to talk to us about rubbish at Meadowbank School. We learnt about the different coloured bins on the junior side. We had fun sorting out the rubbish from the Junior Side into the correct bins!

We now know that each bin has a different purpose:

Green bin (worm bin) - This is for food scraps found on the ground. The worms enjoy most foods except citrus peel and meat! We learnt that we could even put paper into the worm bin that had food on it, e.g. a muffin wrapper.

Blue Bin (recycling) - This is for FIRM plastic, e.g. milk bottles, water bottles, yoghurt pottles.

Yellow Bin - This is for any plastic found in the playground that can be scrunched up in your hand. This should be placed in the yellow bin, which is then taken to the landfill.

Your Lunch box - Any rubbish you have from home should be taken home again please. We found out that some children in our class use re-usable snap-lock bags or containers to store their foods in their lunch boxes. These can then be used over and over again to ensure we have less rubbish at our beautiful school.

Here is an example of how we would sort some of the rubbish found in the playground. We had some fun justifying our answers too!
